The Eels crossed for the first try after a sloppy start from the Raiders.

It was big man Ofahiki Ogden who crashed over next to the posts and things were looking ominous early for the boys in Green when Sean Russell scored a simple try in the corner to make it 10-0 after 12 minutes.

But Canberra have struck back with a sensational try to recruit Kaeo Weekes who puts up a bomb and Eels fullback Blaize Talagi wanted nothing to do with it.

Nick Cotric then pounced and put a grubber into the corner for Weekes to score a stunner and it’s 10-4 after 20 minutes.

Brad Arthur has named new signing Morgan Harper in the centres and Shaun Lane is the biggest name in his starting side.

“We’ve had a long pre-season, 13 weeks, we haven’t done that in a long time but we’ve made the most of it,” Arthur told Fox League.

“We just need to treat today like an NRL game so the young blokes get a feel for what that’s like… I’m sure at some stage today things are going to go against our young blokes but I just want to see them stay in the fight.

“Lane has completed every session this pre-season, we’ll give him half an hour today then we’ll have him firing for Round 1.”
